Kontron Canada is looking for a passionate Hardware Development Designer who will participate in the development of cutting-edge solutions within a multidisciplinary R&D team (hardware, software and mechanics).

Your responsabilities

  • Undertake the full responsibility of the hardware design aspects of complex and innovative products;
  • Lead feasibility studies and supervise preliminary trials;
  • Participate in the detailed product specification redaction;
  • Analyze and select optimal components to meet or exceed desired performance, functionality, manufacturability and reliability criteria, while ensuring cost targets are met;
  • Design complete product schematics;
  • Respect design rules and establish new ones when necessary;
  • Simulate high speed signal integrity and power plane behavior;
  • Write-up precise CAD instructions in respect to component placement and layout constraints;
  • Verify files/drawings (Gerber output) and related documentation used for printed circuit board manufacturing;
  • Design and write code for FPGA solutions;
  • Supervise the creation of test plans needed for hardware design verification/testing;
  • Define a preliminary test list required for the bring-up and verification phases;
  • Carry out the prototype bring-up phase and supervise functional verification. Debug all bugs encountered;
  • Carry out product validation, including signal characterization;
  • Participate in the user manual redaction;
  • Proceed with a seamless and harmonious product transfer to production.


  • Education: University degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • Specialization: Electronics (preferably);
  • Experience: 0 to 3 years of experience;
  • Knowledge:
    • Digital design and electrical constraints rules;
    • C, VHDL and Python programming;
    • Good knowledge of hardware and software architecture of the PC (PCIe, USB, DDR);
    • Usage of test and measurement equipment.
  • Assets:
    • Carried out significant technical projects and experience with switching power supplies;
    • Good knowledge of Siemens (Mentor Graphics) tools like Xpedition Designer and Layout, Hyperlynx;
    • Knowledge of Atlassian tools like JIRA and Confluence.
  • Profile: Contributor to a positive and constructive work atmosphere, excellent team player, creative, resourceful, proactive, great adaptability;
  • Languages: French and English (speak and write fluently).
