Coordinator, Technical Resources Coordinator

Reporting to the Assistant to the Department Director, the incumbent supervises teams of technicians responsible for the proper functioning, optimization and safe use of equipment found in the workshops and laboratories of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The incumbent coordinates several administrative, technical and procurement activities and plays an advisory and technical support role with the faculty, researchers, students of all cycles, as well as with several stakeholders who contribute to the daily operations of the department.

Main responsibilities

Technical team management

  • The person sought supervises the work delegated to technicians, provides them with appropriate administrative and technical supervision and ensures that members of the various teams have access to the necessary training and development. In addition, in collaboration with the Assistant Director, she participates in planning and organizing teaching activities, assesses the availability of premises and ensures the allocation of technical and material resources;

Management of workshop and laboratory operations

  • Based on work requests from professors, students and research associates, the incumbent plans, coordinates and distributes the workload to her technical team; exercises quality control over the services provided; ensures the planning and implementation of preventive maintenance programs for workshop and laboratory equipment and infrastructure, and ensures the optimization of available human, material and financial resources; in collaboration with colleagues from the Building Services Department (SDI), the Institutional Security Department, and the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) sector, participates in the implementation, application and maintenance of the safety rules and measures required within the premises under their jurisdiction;

Advisory role and promotion of services

  • The person sought coordinates technical support activities for students and interns who use the workshops and laboratories. They intervene in complex situations that the technical team cannot resolve. They play an advisory role and collaborate on planning, design and installation activities for new infrastructure (tools and equipment) and on departmental projects. On request and as needed, they produce various technical and administrative reports (including plans and specifications) related to their operations and make recommendations. In addition, she monitors technology in her sector of activity and promotes available technical services to teaching and research staff. Finally, she participates in various departmental outreach activities;
  • Upon request and as needed, the incumbent takes charge of various projects and mandates (e.g.: space redevelopment project). She participates in various departmental and interdepartmental committees;
  • Carries out other related projects or mandates assigned to her by her superior.

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or in a discipline deemed relevant.

Experience

  • At least five (5) years' experience in the field of design and production of system prototypes applied to various disciplines, manufacturing of products and machined parts using specialized equipment and tools, mechanical and electrical systems and project management, combined with experience in managing multidisciplinary and unionized technical teams.
  • Experience in a higher education institution (asset).

Skills and qualities sought

  • Knowledge of institutional, governmental and industrial rules and standards relating to the design and production of system prototypes, test protocols, health and safety in the workplace, management of hazardous materials, etc.
  • Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (asset).

Remuneration

Class 8 ($68,491 to $115,959).
