Piping Designer / CAD Technologist

LAPORTE is seeking a Piping Designer / CAD Technologist with expertise in 2D/3D design and drafting to join our team. This position is available in all our office locations in Canada: Saskatoon (SK), Vancouver (BC), Calgary (AB), Edmonton (AB), or Lethbridge (AB). Our Piping Designer / CAD Technologist will work closely with multidisciplinary teams on industrial and agri-food process systems, contributing to project success through detailed design and drafting using cutting-edge CAD tools.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Be exposed to manufacturing systems and processes for the handling of materials and the manufacturing of industrial and agri-food products;
  • Use CADD (AutoCAD / Plant3D / Revit 3D) to draft manufacturing and packaging systems, process and piping systems, utilities, and HVAC systems;
  • Control quality and ensure compliance of drawings based on Laporte standards;
  • Coordinate with other CAD resources and manage drawing needs for all disciplines;
  • Turn rough models, ideas, sketches, and concepts into design drawings;
  • Conceptualize and create designs, converting them into CAD models;
  • Ensure that the design schedule is followed daily to meet customer requirements;
  • Utilize a sense of urgency in meeting all design schedules;
  • Contribute to improving Laporte CAD operations, CAD standards, and the Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP);
  • Coordinate CAD standards and best practices with other Laporte offices.

Key Requirements:

  • Technologist degree in Engineering, Design, or a related field;
  • Above-average to excellent proficiency in Autodesk software (AutoCAD, Plant3D, Revit 3D);
  • Creative design talent with experience in 2D/3D layouts and designs;
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment, with previous experience in food and beverage, biopharmaceutical, or medical device industries (an asset);
  • Automation systems knowledge (an asset);
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations (an asset);
  • Knowledge of various standard engineering methods and techniques (an asset);
  • Must maintain confidentiality regarding customer and company designs;
  • Professional demeanor and a positive attitude toward team members and clients;
  • Ability to work effectively in a controlled environment.
