Technical Buyer

Based in Montreal, NūMove is a manufacturer and integrator of robotic systems and industrial automation solutions. We develop robust and innovative technologies thanks to our expertise in design, programming, software development and artificial vision.

We assemble and program our systems directly in our 32,000 square foot workshop before commissioning them at our customers' premises. Technical Buyer

The Technical Buyer is part of our passionate procurement team based in Montreal. By joining us, you will be a key player in the growth of the company by having a direct impact on the establishment of our suppliers of materials and equipment during the innovation, design and purchasing stages.

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Technical Buyer will be responsible for the research and purchase of long-lead materials and equipment throughout the innovation and design process. The buyer will also assist the team in the choice of material selection, manufacturing methods, material availability and daily prices. You will act as a stakeholder in the various operations of our purchasing and project processes, such as supplier selection, delivery and testing.

The procurement team at NūMove oversees the purchase of materials, supplier selection, price agreement negotiation and material change management at all phases of major projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in concept review meetings to be on the lookout for the various elements that will be purchased following the design or for the test benches;
  • Support innovation in the choice of materials, in the choice of manufacturing method and in the selection of commercial components;
  • Inform the innovation team about the availability of materials and prices for ongoing developments;
  • Get suppliers to submit bids on parts in design using our 3D modeling software;
  • Participate in improving the prototyping process to reduce lead times and be able to follow the order from RFQ to delivery for all conveniences;
  • Identify, evaluate and establish relationships with suppliers capable of providing compliant materials in short lead times and favorable delivery conditions;
  • Negotiate favorable terms with suppliers, including price, delivery times and payment terms by working closely with the strategic sourcing team to finalize agreements;
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and manage their performance in order to address any issues that may arise during the procurement process and ensure compliance with contractual obligations;
  • Guarantee supplier quality and follow up on non-compliant parts related to the various mandates of the position;
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and develop procurement strategies that align with project timelines and budget constraints;
  • Ensure that the purchase order or purchase contract is properly executed by reviewing and negotiating changes along the way and tracking order delivery;
  • Identify and assess potential risks associated with long-lead items, such as supply chain disruptions, and develop mitigation plans;
  • Stay informed of market fluctuations and take proactive steps to minimize impact on project timelines;
  • Maintain a risk and opportunity register and use it to improve the risk profile of the procurement project;
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of procurement activities, including contracts, purchase orders and communications with suppliers;
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • 2-5 years in the field of design;
  • 1-3 years in the field of procurement;
  • DEC in mechanical engineering, or an equivalent diploma;
  • Have worked with 3D modeling software;
  • Perfect knowledge of French;
  • Advanced English (given the nature of the position, interaction with customers or suppliers located in the United States or English Canada);
  • Proficiency in the office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook);
  • Experience with integrated management software (ERP);
  • Experience in the complete purchase of complex equipment and of high value;
  • Attention to detail, versatility, teamwork and great ability to concentrate;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Autonomy, analytical mind and ability to manage tight deadlines;

ASSET

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering;
  • Experience in design with SolidWorks software;
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment;
  • Experience working with global suppliers;
  • Knowledge of Infor Syteline software.
